BCA delivering renewal

Health and wellbeing

Braunstone Health & Social Care Centre

A brand new centre on Hockley Farm Road that will provide GP’s, opticians, dentists, pharmacists, community nurses, mental health advisors and more, under one roof.
‘Having this new centre on our doorstep will make a world of difference. Before, if we wanted to see a doctor or dentist, we had to travel half way across the city. This was a real problem for a lot of people and I know many have not seen a doctor for years.’
Freda Nethercot, 72

Sport Action Zone

A variety of projects enabling residents of all ages get involved in sporting activities.
Braunstone has also received money from Sport England and the Football Foundation to make improvements to sports facilities in the area such as the Cage and the football pitches on the park.

Braunstone Leisure Centre

A new state-of-the-art Leisure Centre built in conjunction with Leicester City Council and Sport England. Braunstone residents can use the centre at reduced rates.

Sure Start

New Deal money has enabled the Braunstone Sure Start programme – a Government scheme to give children the best start in life – to cover the whole of the estate. It has helped to set up a new centre on Gallards Hill and a nursery, ran by a cooperative of local people, based in the new Leisure Centre.

Our goal is to:

Enable Braunstone residents to live longer and have healthier lives.

By 2008, we aim to ensure that:

  • 25% of Braunstone residents are involved in health prevention and improvement programmes, and
  • there is a 50% increase in residents that engage in physical activity

Key Partners include:

  • Leicester West Primary Care Trust
  • Leicester City Council
