BCA delivering renewal

Housing and environment

Some of the things we are doing in this area include:

Improving Streets and Open Spaces

Street lighting has been upgraded, making Braunstone one of the best-lit areas in Leicester. The ‘Brush Up’ project clears rubbish from around the estate. Work has started on small scale environmental improvements to create village greens throughout the estate.

Better Transport

With support from the Urban Bus Challenge, two new bus services – the 301 and the 317 – have been created to link Braunstone residents with the City, Beaumont Leys and Fosse Park.

Six Streets

200 of Braunstone’s worst houses have been refurbished in conjunction with Leicester Housing Association. More than 60 job and training opportunities have been created on site for local people.

Braunstone Park and Hall

A ‘master plan’ has been developed to make significant improvements to Braunstone Park and Hall, including restoration and re-use of the hall, environmental work, better footpaths, new play areas and sports facilities. Plans include making sure that the park is taken care of in the future.

Our goal is to:

Improve the quality of the natural and built environment, making places accessible and ensuring that improvements are sustained into the future.

By 2008 we aim to ensure that:

  • 75% of homes in Braunstone meet Decent Homes Standards
  • Public open spaces are improved and managed in a way that can be sustained in the future.

Key Partners include:

  • Leicester City Council
  • Leicester Housing Association
  • Environ
  • Countryside Agency
  • Heritage Lottery Fund
  • Arriva
